Pune, located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, is the seventh-largest city in India. Situated about 160 km southeast of Mumbai (a 3 hours drive), Pune is renowned for its connection to the famous Indian guru and philosopher Osho. The ashram he founded in the city remains a significant tourist attraction, setting it apart from other Indian ashrams. Osho's vision was to introduce Western audiences to the practices of yoga, meditation, and Indian philosophy, which has contributed to Pune's popularity as a cultural destination.

Founded around the 8th century AD, Pune's Sanskrit name means "City of Justice." Today, it is a major hub for education and culture, with nine universities and over a hundred educational institutions. I've visited Pune several times for work and have used weekends to explore the city and experience its unique vibe.

Transportation:

Driving in India is an experience like no other. The roads lack rules, road signs, and any regard for right of way. Seat belts and helmets are rarely used, and children are often seen riding on motorcycles without safety measures.

Drivers in India are known for their competitive approach, constantly trying to overtake one another in any direction possible, regardless of the road. It’s a chaotic, honking-filled experience, as every driver seems to have their own idea of how to navigate traffic.

In Pune, tuk-tuks are commonly used, offering an alternative to other modes of transportation like taxis. Crossing the road can feel like a risky adventure, but the city offers convenient options like taxis or hired drivers for those seeking a safer alternative.
