In this blog, I'll share my travel experience with my parents and three sisters (this time, the children and brothers-in-law stayed behind) in the stunning city of Batumi.
Bottom line: We arrived with few expectations and were pleasantly surprised. Batumi has quickly become an attractive destination for Israelis, just a two-hour flight away at an incredibly affordable price.
Batumi offers a wide range of attractions, including options for children, making it an ideal destination for families.
Trip Highlights:

Transport: Most of the main attractions in Batumi are within walking distance from the hotel along the beach strip. For other destinations, we hired a pre-booked driver.

Safety: Batumi has a very different safety standard, let’s just say helmets aren't mandatory, bridges often lack railings, cows roam freely on the roads, and ATVs are typically used on the streets rather than dirt paths. So, be cautious and stay alert!

Modernization: Batumi is a blend of old and new. On one hand, you have luxury hotels and modern developments; on the other, you'll find old railway neighborhoods with laundry lines strung between buildings, stamp-style toilets, and cars with both left- and right-side steering wheels. Cows leisurely walk down the roads, adding to the city’s quirky charm.

1. Batumi Dolphinarium
The Batumi Dolphinarium is a popular attraction located in Batumi, Georgia, on the Black Sea coast. It is known for hosting dolphin and sea lion shows that are entertaining and educational. The facility provides visitors with the opportunity to watch marine animals perform tricks, interact with trainers, and learn about marine conservation.
The Dolphinarium is situated in a scenic part of Batumi, close to the seaside and near other popular tourist spots like Batumi Boulevard. It's a great place for families and those interested in marine life, as it provides an interactive experience with dolphins and other sea creatures. The shows are usually conducted in a well-maintained, modern amphitheater that ensures a great viewing experience.

2. Sheraton Batumi
We arrived at Batumi Airport after an evening flight. The airport is small and old-fashioned, and it's just a short walk from the plane to the terminal. We took the shuttle to our hotel. Feeling hungry, we decided to head over to the nearby Sheraton Batumi Hotel and went up to the 360 Degrees Sheraton Restaurant.
The Sheraton Batumi Hotel is a 5-star hotel located in the heart of Batumi. On the 20th floor, the 360-degree panoramic views of the city and coastline are breathtaking.
A couple of things to keep in mind:

Note 1: It’s best not to arrive after dark, as the restaurant’s reflections can make the view almost impossible to see.

Note 2: Since this was our first culinary experience in Batumi, we were really impressed by the food it is still pricier than at other restaurants in the city.
Despite this, the stunning views and enjoyable meal made it a great start to our trip!

3. Europe Square
If you think Batumi is only about modern buildings and attractions, a visit to Europe Square will show you a different side of the city, rich in historical heritage. The square and its surrounding buildings offer a fine reconstruction of Batumi as it appeared in the 19th century, when its port was a key part of the oil route connecting the Caspian Sea to Europe.
At the heart of Europe Square, you'll find the striking statue of the Greek goddess Medea, symbolizing Georgia's ancient connections with Europe and other ancient cultures.
4. Astronomical Clock
The Astronomical Clock in Batumi is a fascinating and unique landmark located in Europe Square, adding a touch of historical charm to the city’s modern atmosphere. The clock, which combines both timekeeping and astronomical features, is designed to display not only the current time but also celestial details like the positions of the sun and moon, the phases of the moon, and the time of sunrise and sunset.
Standing tall in the square, the Astronomical Clock is a beautiful example of intricate craftsmanship, with ornate carvings and a mechanical design that reflects Batumi's blend of old and new. The clock is a popular spot for visitors, and it adds an interesting dimension to the city, connecting the ancient tradition of astronomical observation with Batumi's modern cultural and architectural scene.
5. Piazza of Batumi
The Piazza of Batumi Located in the heart of the city, it combines a mix of Italian Renaissance and Georgian architectural styles, giving it a unique charm. The Piazza is surrounded by elegant buildings, including cafés, restaurants, and shops, making it a popular gathering spot for both locals and tourists.
At the center of the square, you'll find an impressive fountain, which adds to the picturesque setting, especially in the evening when the lights create a magical ambiance. The Piazza of Batumi is also known for its musical performances and cultural events, making it a hub for social and cultural activities.
6. Argo Cable Car
The Argo Cable Car in Batumi offers one of the most stunning panoramic views of the city, the Black Sea coast, and the surrounding mountains. The cable car ride takes you from the city center to the top of the Anuria Mountain, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Batumi skyline, the coastline, and lush landscapes.
The ride itself lasting around 10-15 minutes, and once you reach the top, you are greeted by a viewing platform, a café, and a small amusement area. The Argo Cable Car is particularly popular for sunset views, providing a spectacular backdrop as the sun sets over the sea and the city below.
At the summit, visitors can also explore the Anuria Park, a peaceful spot for a walk or relaxation while taking in the expansive scenery.
7. Statue of lovers Ali and Nino
The Statue of Lovers Ali and Nino in Batumi is a striking and modern monument that has become one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Located near the seafront promenade, the statue depicts the love story of Ali, a Muslim boy, and Nino, a Christian Georgian girl, who fall in love in the early 20th century despite their cultural and religious differences.
What makes this statue unique is its kinetic design. The two figures, which are made of metal, slowly move toward each other, merge into one entity, and then separate again, symbolizing the tension between love and separation. This movement is a representation of the emotional and physical distance between the two lovers due to societal pressures, but also the unbreakable bond they share.
The statue is inspired by the novel "Ali and Nino" by Kurban Said, which tells the tragic and passionate love story. It stands as a powerful symbol of love, unity, and the challenges of cultural divides. The Statue of Lovers is not just a work of art but also a poignant reflection of Batumi’s diverse cultural history. 8. Ferris Wheel

Standing at around 55 meters tall, this iconic Ferris wheel provides a fantastic perspective of Batumi’s coastline, modern skyline, and the nearby mountains.

9. Alphabet Tower
The Alphabet Tower in Batumi is a striking and unique landmark located along the city’s seafront promenade. Standing at 130 meters tall, it is one of the tallest structures in Batumi and serves as a tribute to the Georgian alphabet. The tower’s design features a spiraling helix with 33 letters of the Georgian alphabet, symbolizing the importance of language and culture to the nation’s identity.
The structure itself is illuminated at night, creating a spectacular sight as its lights shine against the night sky. Visitors can take an elevator to the top of the tower, where they are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Black Sea, Batumi’s coastline, and the surrounding mountains. The tower also features a small viewing platform, offering a great opportunity for photos and sightseeing.

10. Dancing Fountains
The Dancing Fountains in Batumi are one of the city’s most captivating attractions, offering a mesmerizing show of water, light, and music. Located near the seafront, the fountains are a highlight of the Batumi Boulevard and draw both locals and tourists every evening.
The fountains come to life with a dynamic display where water jets move in sync with various types of music, ranging from classical to contemporary tunes. The lights add a magical touch to the show, creating a vibrant and colorful atmosphere that is especially enchanting at night.
The Dancing Fountains are free to visit and make for a perfect evening outing. They are often accompanied by a light show that adds an extra layer of drama, making it a great spot for families, couples, or anyone looking to enjoy an unforgettable experience. 11. Batumi Boulevard
It’s likely that at some point during your visit to Batumi, you’ll find yourself strolling along Batumi Boulevard, the vibrant heart of the city. Inaugurated in 1884, this 6 km-long promenade runs parallel to the coastline, serving as both a scenic urban avenue and a popular waterfront destination. Lined with trees, walking paths, fountains, and a variety of restaurants, cafes, and pubs, the boulevard offers a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation and people-watching.
From Batumi Boulevard, you can easily access the town’s beach, where you can take a dip in the Black Sea or enjoy various water sports. While the beach isn’t covered with golden sands, its rocky and stony shores still attract plenty of visitors, especially during the peak summer months of July and August. The beach remains lively and popular, offering a refreshing escape with a stunning view of the sea.
12. Batumi Botanical Garden
The Batumi Botanical Garden is a stunning natural attraction located just a few kilometers outside of the city, along the coast of the Black Sea. Covering around 111 hectares, the garden is one of the largest and most diverse botanical collections in the region, showcasing over 5,000 species of plants from around the world.
The garden is divided into several thematic sections, including tropical, subtropical, and Mediterranean plants, allowing visitors to explore a variety of landscapes and ecosystems. Its lush greenery, winding paths, and scenic viewpoints make it a peaceful retreat, perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a break from the city.

13. Little Georgia
Little Georgia is a charming and unique attraction in Batumi that offers a miniature model of the diverse landscapes, landmarks, and architectural styles of Georgia. Located near the city center, Little Georgia features detailed models of key historical and cultural sites from across the country, giving visitors a chance to experience Georgia's rich heritage in one place.
The park includes replicas of famous Georgian landmarks, such as castles, churches, and monuments, as well as miniatures of picturesque villages and scenic landscapes, showcasing the country’s natural beauty. Visitors can stroll through the park, admire the craftsmanship of the models, and learn more about Georgia’s history and traditions.

14. The Musical Garden
The Musical Garden in Batumi is a unique and enchanting park that combines nature with music. Located near the Batumi Boulevard, this garden is designed to create a relaxing and harmonious atmosphere through the use of sound and visual beauty.
In the garden, you’ll find a variety of sculptures, fountains, and plants, but the highlight is the musical elements integrated into the space. The park features interactive musical installations where visitors can enjoy playing musical instruments, and some areas even have instruments that play melodies on their own.
The garden also hosts musical performances from time to time, adding a dynamic cultural layer to the experience.

15. Mtirala National Park
Mtirala National Park is a beautiful and serene natural reserve located about 30 kilometers from Batumi, nestled in the Adjara Region of Georgia. The park is named after Mount Mtirala, which stands as the park’s central feature. Known for its rich biodiversity, lush greenery, and diverse ecosystems, it is one of the most picturesque destinations in Georgia.
Covering around 15,000 hectares, the park is a haven for nature lovers, hikers, and those seeking to explore Georgia’s natural beauty. The climate is temperate and humid, with the area often shrouded in mist, creating a mystical atmosphere. The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including rare plants, birds, and animals, making it a great spot for eco-tourism and wildlife enthusiasts.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, such as hiking, birdwatching, and nature walks along the well-maintained trails. One of the most popular routes takes visitors to the Mtirala Waterfall, a stunning cascade of water surrounded by lush vegetation. The park also offers great opportunities for camping and picnicking, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the tranquil environment.
The park is stunningly beautiful. The trail is not easy, with a moderate hiking level, and it is not suitable for young children.
There are two trails: a shorter one leading to the hidden lake and a longer one leading to the waterfall.
The hike begins with crossing through a house from one side to the other.

16. Makunuchiti Falls
Makunuchiti Falls is a stunning and relatively hidden natural gem located near Batumi, in the Adjara Region of Georgia. Nestled in the lush greenery of the Mtirala National Park, this waterfall is one of the park's most beautiful features, offering a tranquil and picturesque spot for nature lovers and hikers.
The falls are surrounded by dense forest and are accessible by hiking trails that provide an immersive experience in the park's rich biodiversity. As the water cascades down from a height of around 20 meters, perfect for photography. The surrounding area is characterized by vibrant flora, which makes the hike to the falls particularly scenic.
The trail to Makunuchiti Falls is moderately challenging, making it suitable for adventurous travelers looking for a rewarding outdoor experience. The peaceful sound of the waterfall, combined with the natural beauty of the surroundings, offers a refreshing escape from the city, making it an ideal destination for those exploring the Adjara region.

The Two Colors (also known as Two Colors Lake) is a striking natural wonder located in the Adjara region of Georgia, near the village of Keda. The lake is named for its unique appearance, as its waters are divided into two distinct colors: one side of the lake is a deep blue, while the other side appears green. This intriguing color difference is caused by the varying mineral compositions and depths of the water, creating a surreal and beautiful sight.
Surrounded by lush greenery and steep cliffs, The Two Colors Lake is an excellent spot for nature lovers, photographers, and those looking to enjoy a peaceful retreat in the Georgian countryside. The lake is situated in a remote and pristine area, adding to its allure and providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Visitors can hike to the lake, enjoying scenic views of the surrounding mountains and forests along the way. The area is also great for birdwatching, with a variety of species inhabiting the region. 17. Waterfall Mirveti
Mirveti Waterfall is a beautiful and scenic waterfall located in the Adjara Region of Georgia, near the village of Mirveti, approximately 25 kilometers from Batumi. This waterfall is known for its stunning natural beauty and the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds it.
The waterfall drops from a height of about 30 meters, creating a refreshing mist and a picturesque sight as the water flows over the rocks and cascades into a small pool below. The surrounding area is lush and green, with dense forest and mountain landscapes adding to the location's charm.
To reach Mirveti Waterfall, visitors can enjoy a short, easy hike through the scenic forest trail, making it a great destination for nature lovers and hikers. The walk to the waterfall is relatively simple, and the sound of the rushing water creates a calming environment for those seeking a break from city life.
18. Ethnographic Museum
Located just 20 minutes from the city, the museum showcases the work of Kamel Turmanichi, who spent +40 years carving hundreds of wooden figures that depict the history of the Georgian people. With a collection of over 4,300 items, it offers a fascinating glimpse into Georgia's past.
The museum itself is charming and provides insight into Georgian history. However, there’s not much to see for longer than an hour. What makes it special is that all the exhibits were handcrafted by one person over 40 years. The tour is guided in English, and the museum’s creator is often on-site, offering personal explanations.
Food
Quite an interesting concept, you arrive at the fish market and choose the fish you want, walk 50 meters and let the restaurant next door fry them.
Summary
Batumi was incredible: authentic, affordable, and mostly enjoyable. It turned out to be a very bonding family trip, exceeding all our expectations. The experience was enriching, and we left with lasting memories.
