The Statue of Liberty is one of the most iconic symbols of the United States, located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was a gift from France to the United States in 1886 to celebrate the centennial of the American Revolution and symbolize the friendship between the two nations. The statue also represents freedom, democracy, and the spirit of liberty.
The statue was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with the internal framework designed by Gustave Eiffel, who also designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The statue holds a torch in her right hand, symbolizing enlightenment, and a tablet in her left hand inscribed with the date of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
The Statue of Liberty has become a global symbol of freedom and a welcoming sight for immigrants arriving by sea to America.
The statue stands 151 feet tall (46 meters), but if you include the pedestal and the foundation, it reaches a total height of 305 feet (93 meters).
