1. Allianz Arena

The Munich massacre was one of the most tragic and shocking events in the history of the Olympic Games. During the 1972 Olympics, a Palestinian terrorist group from “Black September” infiltrated the Olympic Village and took the Israeli athletes hostage. The attack began early in the morning when the group broke into the athletes’ building, killing two immediately and taking nine more hostages.
After hours of tense negotiations, it was decided to transfer the terrorists and hostages to the Fürstenfeldbruck airbase, where a German police rescue operation was planned. The operation failed disastrously, and lack of coordination led to gunfire and grenade explosions. All nine Israeli hostages were killed, along with a German police officer and one of the terrorists.
The event had a profound impact on Israel and the world. It exposed serious flaws in Olympic security planning and led to a global reevaluation of safety measures for international sporting events. In Munich, a striking memorial was established in Olympic Park to tell the story of the eleven athletes who were murdered and to honor their memory in a respectful and moving way.
