I thought about where I would take my son Yair, who is celebrating a bar mitzvah (and the presenter of most of the photos 😚), for a traditional father-son trip.

Trip itinerary:

  • ✈ Flight - Norwegian Airlines direct flight to Copenhagen

  • 🚘 Transportation - Car rental for a week, pick up and return from Copenhagen airport

  • 🎯Location - 3 nights in Billund and 4 nights in Copenhagen

  • ⛈ Weather - a combination of autumn, spring, summer, and winter in one day.

  • 🌞 Sunset - An amazing advantage that sunset is at 21:30

1. Lego House

A huge building that combines Lego and hi-tech. Kjaald Kirk Christiansen, the grandson of Lego founder Ole Kirk Christiansen wanted to gather all the ideas and creations of his family in one house that would activate the imagination, the desire and the passion of people to play with Lego.

The house includes several areas of experience:

  • Red for creativity

  • Blue for cognitive abilities

  • Green for friendships

  • Yellow for the world of emotions,

The Lego House is a huge play area for children, a hall for Lego fans who publish their creations, and also a unique basement, where there is a history of Lego.

Every visitor receives a bracelet at the entrance to the house, and there is an electronic station in every corner. When you attach the bracelet to it, you can see where we are, what we have done so far, where we can go and even what characters we have built.

So, we built characters, made a movie, played with Lego and played with Lego again.

3. Interactive Play Areas

  • LEGO Build Zones: Areas where visitors can build their own LEGO creations.

  • Duplo Land: Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers with soft play areas and gentle rides.

6. Agaskov Castle

A castle located in the south of Finn IslandDenmark. Most of the Danish nobility built their houses as fortresses. The castle is located in a small lake whose maximum depth reaches 5 meters. Originally, the only entrance to it was with the help of a drawbridge.

According to the legend, an entire forest of oaks was required to build the foundations, hence the castle's name, Agaskov, which means "forest of oaks."

The castle is made of two buildings connected by a thick double wall, which allows its defenders to abandon one house and continue fighting from the other house. The double wall is a meter thick and contains a well and hidden staircases. The defenders could attack the enemy lines from two round-corner towers. Other medieval defenses include loopholes.

You can easily spend half a day in the castle. There are a large number of displays of cars, motorcycles, a helicopter, and two airplanes that until now I did not understand the connection to the place.

8. Frederiksborg Castle

Fredericksburg Castle was built by King Christian IV in the first decades of the 17th century and is the largest Renaissance complex in the Nordic region. The purpose of the building was to show off and enhance Christian IV's status as a powerful European monarch. Accordingly, the castle is richly decorated with symbolic and decorative elements: for example, the impressive Neptune fountain and the marble gallery of the king's wing.

Since 1878, Frederiksborg Castle has housed the National History Museum, which presents 500 years of Danish history with a collection of portraits, history paintings, furniture and applied art. The museum was established by the founder of Carlsberg, the brewer J. C. Jacobsen, and since then is an independent department of the Carlsberg Foundation.

9. Jægersborg Dyrehave

The park is stunning in its beauty, entrance is on foot and free of charge.

The center of the park is actually a decorated castle. Around it, there are benches for sitting and watching the view. Behind the castle, there is a lovely view of the sea.

Around the castle, there are open areas where the elk herds live.

We got caught in a crazy rain, so we didn't have time to visit the whole park, but I did have time to take pictures 😇

10. The Little Mermaid Statue

The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen is one of Denmark’s most famous landmarks, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Mermaid from 1837.

It sits on a rock by the Langelinie promenade in the harbor and was unveiled in 1913. The statue was commissioned by Carl Jacobsen after seeing a ballet adaptation of the story and sculpted by Edvard Eriksen. The face was modeled after ballerina Ellen Price, and the body after Eriksen’s wife, Eline.

Although only about 1.25 meters tall, the statue has become a symbol of Copenhagen and Danish culture.

Over the years, it has occasionally been vandalized but always restored. Today, it remains a popular tourist spot, offering a scenic view of the harbor and easy access from central Copenhagen.

11. Kastellet | Gaffion Fountain

The Kastellet of Copenhagen is a barracks (military camp) of the Danish army built in the shape of a five-pointed star. Around it is a deep moat, also in the shape of a star, which protects it from enemies and turns it into a military fortress. The citadel is one of the best preserved citadels in Northern Europe, and although it is an active military installation, it is open to the public. A point not to be missed is the gaff fountain.

Sculptor Andreas Bungdard designed the fountain that features the Norse goddess Gaphion. According to legend, she turned her sons into oxen and plowed enough land to create Zeeland, the island on which Copenhagen is located.

12. Emleinburg Palace

The Emleinburg Palace consists of 4 palaces bordering a huge square. Every day at 12:00 there is a changing of the guard. Towards the designated time, policemen arrive and move the crowd that has gathered in the palace plaza until it lines up on the marked lines, and only then do the guard soldiers leave at exactly 12:00. The whole ceremony takes long minutes.

To get a seat you must be at the square at least at 11:20, otherwise they will hide you
